A wooden box roughly doubles the perceived value of the bottle inside it — but only if the bottle fits like it was born there. This is the sizing knowledge we share with distilleries, wineries and food producers every week, written down.
Bottle shapes vary far more than most producers expect, and a box that fits a Bordeaux wine bottle will rattle around a gin bottle and refuse a whiskey decanter entirely. Measure three things on your exact bottle: total height including closure, maximum diameter, and shoulder height. The common formats we size for:
A sliding-lid box is theatre: the lid glides back to reveal the bottle, which makes it the right choice for gifts, launches and anything unboxed in front of a camera. It also protects in shipping. A rustic open box shows the bottle immediately, which suits shelf display and farm-shop retail where the product must sell itself at a glance. Two-, three- and four-bottle formats follow the same logic — sliding lids for gifting sets, open cradles for tasting flights and displays.
Bottle boxes are supplied in packs of 25 because that's the sweet spot between pallet efficiency and storage reality. Practical points producers wish they'd known earlier: a pack of 25 single-bottle boxes weighs roughly what one person can move safely, so plan shelf space rather than floor stacks; empty boxes stored flat in a dry room keep indefinitely, but keep them off cold concrete floors where they'll wick moisture; and order your next pack when the current one is half gone — matching timber runs is easy for us with notice, hard in a panic.
On timber, a laser-engraved logo outperforms print and labels in every respect that matters to a producer: it can't peel in a cold room, can't scuff in transit, and reads as premium in a way ink never does. Best placement is the lid centre for sliding-lid boxes and the front face for open cradles. Fine label detail — small text, thin script — engraves better than it prints; deep contrast comes from the burn, not from ink coverage.
If your bottle is non-standard, don't force it into a near-fit — a custom nest or insert costs less than producers expect and transforms the presentation. Send us the bottle (or just its three measurements) and our Dublin studio will size the box, cut the insert and engrave the branding as one job.
